My First
By Max
This is my memory:
it was my first major league baseball game at AL Tahoe. I was on
the Giants and we were playing the LA Dodgers. I could remember
walking out on to the field and smelling the fresh, clean cut grass.
I started
to warm up that day. I was playing first base. I was throwing and
catching the ball really well. My coach called me over for batting
practice. It wasnĂt going good. I just couldnĂt hit the ball! Then
the coach threw a zipper and it nailed me in the leg. It stung like
someone had given me a charlie-horse, but I got back up and was
ok.
It was game
time. We were the home team so we were out in the field first. The
first three innings were all the same as the first; three up, three
down, three up, three down, three up, three down. Fourth inning
came and the Dodgers scored two runs. Now we were behind by two
runs. The fifth inning was the same as the first, no one scored.
In the sixth inning, which was the last inning, the other team scored
one run. Now it was our turn to catch up. The first two men got
up and struck out. The next 3 men got base hits which loaded the
bases. Then it was my turn. Most of the team was scared because
I didnĂt have a hit all day. The first pitch was on the outside
corner.
" Strike
One!" yelled the umpire. The crowd moaned and booed.
" No way."
I complained. I had to take the strike. The next pitch was a curve
ball; I swung so hard I could hear the bat whistling through the
air.
"Strike
two!" the umpire yelled.
The next pitch
was on the outside corner I swung and hit it on the outside of the
sweet spot. BANG! It was ground ball right down the first base line
and rolled all the way to the fence. I ran to third base and my
coach was telling me to stop but I knew I could make it. I started
running home and I saw the throw coming in at the same as I was,
I slid and hit home plate just as the ball came into the catcher.
It was up to the umpire to decide what the call was.
"Safe!"
the umpire yelled. And I won the game. The crowd and my team were
screaming and roaring so loud it was defining. That moment I will
remember this event forever because that was one of the greatest
feelings. It was like I was on top of the world.
