Slip Away
By Emma
Do you have
a dog? Well, if you do, you know the emotional attachment to them.
If they were to die this very second, what would you miss most about
them? Would it be they way they wagged their tail so hard when they
saw you that it looked like it would fly off? Or would it be the
way they would go insane when you got home, pulled up in a car,
touched their leash, poured them their dog food, gave them a look
or said their name?
My dog was like
that. She would do all of that and more. She would never leave my
side when she felt that I felt the least bit sad or scared. But
as I stood there, by the vets table, I was thinking of what had
happened that day, and how much I wish I had spent the day with
her, instead of at the pool.
It was a Friday,
and as I walked in the door and as always, my dog was waiting by
the door.I walked in, and petted my knee-high black, very old friend.
Since I was so tired I grabbed a snack and slipped into my room
to relax. Little did I know what was going to happen that night.
Five minutes
later, my mom stuck her head in the door and asked, "Em, do
know what happened to Dolly, she seems like she hit her paw or something?"
So I got up and walked unsteadily towards my unreplacable companion.
I saw her, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and just as
my mom had said, she was limping. So I sat down next to her and
inspected her paw. I got up, and, my dad and I told my mom that
it was nothing to be worried about, it was just something that she
had bumped. Or so I thought.
Ten minutes
later I heard a YELP!! I rushed out of my room, being oblivious
to everything around me. I ran towards the living room. In that
room I saw her through my now tearful eyes. My dog was hurt, she
was hurt real bad. She was unsteady. She was walking around in circles
with her teeth chattering, I saw the look in her eyes, I never remembered
seeing that look before. It scared me. It was then that I became
fearful for my dogĂs life.
Then my mom
broke my thought by murmering, , " IĂll call the vet."
When we got
to the vet, Dolly had totally lost al of her senses. The vet told
us she was having a stroke. After telling me to go out in the waiting
room with my mom, my dad talked to the vet. After a few minutes
it happened. PLUNK!!!
My heart stopped,
when heard my dad break out in tears, so as quick as my legs would
carry me, I was at the door. I opened the door. A bitter
feeling hit me. When the door opened to itĂs full extent, I felt
like someone had just kicked me in the gut. My dog was lying almost
lifeless on the table. I stumbled over to the table. Then I watched
her slip away into an unwakable sleep.
Later we were
preparing to leave tear-soaked and dogless. As my dad went to pay
the vet for his services, I pet my dog on the nose, like I did every
morning to wake her up, but this time it didnĂt work.
