The Things
I Do for Christmas Presents
By Sarah
It was Christmas
Eve and I couldn't sleep one bit. I was so excited. I also wanted
to wake up before anyone else, especially my three brothers. So
I stayed up all night reading. I read two books cover to cover.
Finally, dawn came and I went downstairs to wait for the rest of
my family. I got so impatient I ran up stairs and screamed, "
Mom n Dad, all our presents are gone!"
My parents rushed
down and realized I had lied to them. Everything was there, the
Christmas tree, our presents and our stockings hanging above the
blazing hot fireplace. Thank goodness my brothers didn't wake up
and realize what I had done.
" Sarah
why did you tell us that terrible lie? You will not open any of
your wonderful gifts until tonight." Those were my Mother's
exact words.
" But uh"
" There
are no buts young lady. I will, however, make a deal with you. If
you get dressed quickly and stack the firewood outside, which you
were supposed to do yesterday- before your brothers' wake up, I
will let you open your presents this morning."
I wasted no
time and got dressed, ran outside, and started stacking wood. It
took about a-half-an-hour to finish stacking the heavy, wet woods.
I got in the house before my brothers woke up. I walked in drooping
my tired feet left and right, left and right.
"
Good job stacking the wood, now you can open your presents this
morning with your brothers," my Mom and Dad said very proudly.
I was feeling kind of proud of myself as well as my parents.
"
Thank you Mom and Dad. I am so tired, can I eat now?" I said
breathing heavily.
My brothers
just came down from their bedrooms and looked outside the clear
window, in the semi-clean living room.
" Why did
you stack the wood so early in the morning Sarah?" Sean asked
with his puzzled face."
" Sarah
wanted to give your Dad and I an extra Christmas presentš this is
a Christmas we will remember for a long time." Both of my happy
parents replied.
A couple of
hours later, I thought why did I play that prank? First I thought
it was because I wanted presents so bad and to make a scene, now
I know that all I wanted was attention.
