Puppy Love
By Kylene
Have you ever
wanted a puppy so bad that your heart aches if you don't see one
for a long time?
The sun was
rising and it was the most beautiful morning. My family, friends,
and I were at the beach playing some volleyball. "Kylene, come
down here there is something I want to show you." My friend
Holly yelled form the water line.
When I got
there I saw the cutest puppy. As soon as I saw the puppy I knew
that I wanted to take her home. I had to be with the puppy as long
as I could She was black and had little white spots on her feet.
The owners said she was a Dalmatian with some Terrier in her.
"Kylene?"
the owners asked. "Do you want this puppy because my dad is
making me give the puppy away." I was so exited I couldn't
think. The only problem was my dad. He didn't want a dog and I didn't
think he would let me have this one.
I begged my
dad every chance I got but time was running out. The sun started
to go down and I knew this was my last chance. I saw the puppy and
her owners start to leave the beach so I asked my dad one more time.
That night
on the way home I had a puppy. I named the puppy Midge. She was
so cute I couldn't stop thinking about that cute puppy face.
Every night
Midge would sleep in my room and I would fall asleep to the sound
of her puppy nosiness. I was deep in my sleep dreaming about the
day with Midge and all thš. GURGGLE, GURGGLE, GURGGLE. I woke up
and didn't know what the sound was, GURGGLE, GURGGLE, GURGGLE. I
didn't know what to think or do. 'What if my puppy's hurt' I thought.
I looked toward Midge's bed. There it was something I could have
not even thought of. It was gross and slimy, and I didn't know what
to do. I had never cleaned up throw up before and I sure didn't
want to do it now. " Mom." I screamed at the top of my lungs. Wait
I thought. 'It's 3:00am in the morning nobody in my family is going
to be awake. I decided to deal with it later, and go to bed now.
The next
day my family and I were on our way to the vet's office. When we
entered I could smell all the animal that were there. I sat down
and started to look around. There were three other dogs, two cats
and these cute little creatures. I didn't know exactly what the
creatures were so I went over to the owners and asked them. "
They are called ferrets." The owner said
"Oh no,
not my baby!!!!" I heard the most awful scream coming form
the check up room. A couple minutes this little old lady comes walking
out in tears, with a dog leash in her hands. My stomach sank at
this sight I couldn't even think of losing my puppy.
"It's
Midge's turn honey." My mom said. I thanked her for telling
me, and took a deep breath. Every step I took was harder then the
last. With Midge in my arms I felt the strength to go on. "You
can just leave Midge here if you would like, and I will tell you
when she is ready." The vet said when I finally made my way
to the vet's office. I agreed, and somehow I managed to leave Midge
in there.
My puppy was
with the vet for one hour. I the waiting room it felt like 3 hours.
Finally I saw my puppy and the vet come through the office door.
I ran up to them and practically tore Midge from the vet's arms.
While Midge was in my arms I heard the vet start to say something
to my mom "I am so sorry but there is nothing we can do. Your
puppy has an intestine infection, and she is most likely going to
die." He said in a deafening voice. I was so stunned that I
couldn't think.
The vet put
the puppy down that night. I felt like something was gone and would
never come back. On the way home I cried all the way and didn't
even eat dinner because I was so sad and depressed.
Time went
on and it was Christmas. It was a time to be happy but the puppy
kept coming into my mind. Images of the last time I saw Midge wouldn't
leave my head, the gut feeling every time I thought of Midge made
me want to throw up. This was the saddest time of year for me.
It was Christmas
morning and right next to the tree was a cage with two ferrets in
it. I was so glad my parents knew exactly what I wanted. They were
so cute and one of them had a little raccoon face. The other one
was a lighter color but still had the raccoon look. They were both
really long and playful I loved them so much. I was the happiest
I have ever been since the puppy died. The ferrets took my mind
of the puppy, but I will never forget those puppy eyes.
