The Best
Run of My Life
By Jerel
"Bib number
three, zero. 3,2,1, GO!" the starter yelled. I pushed off and
went straight into the moguls.
"Thump,
thump, thump," my skis went as they hit the snow. I was at
the first jump. Whoosh! I flew off the jump doing a brilliant twister-spread.
As I landed, snow flew everywhere. There was so much snow I felt
like I was in some cloudy haze. I was going faster than I have ever
gone before.
"Keep
my back straight and reach with my poles," I said to
myself. Already, I was at the second jump. I flew off the jump and
I felt peaceful in the air doing my double-twister. In the air it
felt like time stopped and I was in some kind of suspended animation.
Bam! Back to reality. I landed and I felt the compression all the
way through my body from head to toe. The compression felt like
an elephant sitting on my back. Going as fast as I could, I flew
past the finish and threw my hand in the air. At that moment, I
knew that was the best run I have ever done in my life.
"Good job!"
my mom cheered.
"Jerel,
let's go to the awards ceremony. We're late," my dad said.
We rushed to the awards ceremony and got there just in the nick
of time.
"And
the winner is, Jerel Dutton!" said the man who was giving out
the awards. I went up to the podium and received my award. It was
one of the best feelings of my life. It felt like I was on the top
of the world.

I started
to reflect on the day as I stood up there on the podium. Wow, I
had won the Heavenly ski championships. I remember taking the chair
up the mountain. Also, I remember the first kid. The kid that went
in front of me. He was so good and I wanted to beat him so bad.
I remember getting the countdown, but most of all, I remember my
winning run. That was one of the best feelings in my life. Knowing
that I had worked so hard at something and earned it.
