The Day
My Head Met the Pavement
By Jackie
Everyone
ran inside and got their parents to come and help me. They all stood
above me and started directing questions to me. It was all a blur
so I wasn't able to understand what they were asking. After I didn't
respond they carefully lifted me and brought me home.
This day
had started like any other. All of my neighbors including myself
were outside playing while our parents got ready for a party they
would be attending later that afternoon. We all decided that we
should ride our bikes but I didn't have mine with me. I lifted my
head to look up the huge hill I would have to climb in order to
get my bike and smirked to myself, "There is no way I am scooting
my butt back up that hill to get my bike."
I slowly
turned to Willis and with a big smile on my face I pleaded, "May
I please use your bike?"
He happily
replied, "Yeah, sure! Why not?"
So I hopped
on his bike that was three times too small for me, and started riding
around. I didn't stop to think that I should have a helmet on. I
told everyone that I could ride with my eyes closed but no one believed
me so I went ahead and did it. I barely rode the bike for a few
seconds when I came rushing to the hot pavement. I can remember
the horrible throbbing pain and feeling of being terrified that
something bad was going to happen to me. That was one of the most
dramatic moments of my life.
I had a
scar on my forehead for many years after that and I can still remember
the throbbing headache that glued my eyes shut. That was the day
my head met the pavement.
