My trip
to Hawaii
By Garret
I woke up early
and took a fourty-five minute drive down to Kona. I was going to
some surf shop for lessons. When we arrived the place smelled like
a bakery. I asked the guy what smelled so good. He said it is some
Hawaiian donuts. He gave me one it was good. He said his name was
Mike. I said mine was Garrett. When we were talking he said I might
not be able to go out today because there was big waves and a really
strong current. He said he sent down a couple of his coworkers to
the beach to see if it was safe, but the chances are were that I
wasn't going to be able to go out. I was so bummed but when I heard
that it was safe to go I was so happy. Mike told me to have fun
and be safe.
My dad drove
me down to the beach. As we drove up there were signs everywhere
that said strong current. I was kind of scared but more excited
then scared. We found the two coaches hanging out by the
water they said, you must be Garrett".
I said, "Yep".
So after about
ten minutes of chatting about my life they gave me a rash guard
to put on so I wouldn't get a rash from the salt water. After an
introduction on surfing I finally got to go into the water it was
so warm I started paddling out on my surfboard. I saw a sea turtle
it was really cool because I have never seen one in the ocean before
it was a really cool experience.
Then Brock my
coach said to me, "Catch the next wave!" I tried and it didn't work
out to well. I fell off the board and hit my foot on a piece of
coral because the water wasnĂt real deep. I tried three more times
and nothing happened. After three more tries I had to start paddling
back to the shore because the curent was really strong and it had
pulled us far already.
After about
590,569,032.6 tries I finally got up. Getting on that first wave
was so cool. It felt good inside of methat is until I fell off and
my back hit a rock it didn't hurt to bad but if I didnĂt have that
rash guard it would have hurt a lot more if I didn't have a rash
guard. I didnĂt want to but after a long day of paddling I was ready
to go. That day was the best day of my life and I want to
go surfing again I loved it.
