The Biggest
Day of the Year
by Claudia
"Get up
Oly, get up!" my older brother said really exited.
"I'm sleeping
go bug somebody else!" I yelled.
"Just get
up" he insisted.
So I did got
up, mad, because I was tired and all I wanted to do was sleep. But
when I realized that it was January 6, which is like a second Christmas
in Mexico and in one of Mexico's traditions this means that three
kings come during the night to leave presents for the kids, I ran
to the living room and there they were our presents.
There were two
boxes with pictures of roller blades on the front, one had my name
on it and the other one had my brother's name on it. When we opened
them we found two pairs of roller blades. Mine were white with pink
lines, and my brothers were black with blue.
Since we
were at our grandparent's house and my younger aunt who was about
18 years old we woke her and everybody in the house up.
My aunt
told us to try them on so my brother and I put our roller blades
on.
"Can we
do to Alex (my cousin's) house?" my brother and me asked.
"Sure,"
my mom and dad answered.
So our aunt
tried to take us. I said tried because since it was the first
time that my brother and I used roller blades we were falling down
every five seconds first me, them my brother and we went that way
all the way to my cousin's house, and all my annoying aunt did was
laugh.
When we
were roller blading my brother and my cousin were going down a street,
they were telling me to go too, but I was scared because I still
couldn't control the roller blades very well and I didn't wanted
to fall down.
After a couple
of weeks that we had started using roller blades my brother and
my cousin got really good, but I kept on falling down, which really
hurt.
After a couple
of MONTHS I learned how to roller blade, even thought it took me
a lot of time and a lot of falls, I was happy to know that all of
that hard work, practices, and specially falls had been worth something.
From that day
on I got good at roller blading, and I could even race with my brother
and my cousin. I did fall every now and then but it was okay.
