The Split
Second Moment

One day in August
1991, the teacher had said, "You have four minutes left and
then we will go out side for recess."
I was almost
done, when I finished I got in line to go out side. Then the bell
rang but she wouldn't let anyone out? Then she said, "Since
you all have been so good I'll let you go one the big kids side
of the play ground."
We all
screamed in delight. We all ran over to the slide, I was first in
line to go down the slide. So I climbed up the slide and grabbed
the bar. I wanted to get a lot of speed so I could go fast. So I
swung back then fourth. Just as I started to let go, my left hand
slipped, I flew to the side and SMACK! My right leg hit the side
of the slide. It made go down off the slide head first. Then CRACK!
My head hit the edge of the cement curb and every thing went black.
I could hear people screaming around me, then all went silent.
When I woke
up in the hospital I asked my mom what happened and she told me
what had happened. Next week I was back at school and today we were
again able to go on the slide but I decided not to.
I saw John
clime up to go down the slide. I looked at the bar and something
seamed wrong? I looked at the bar harder .THERE WAS ICE ON THE BAR!
I yelled at the top of my lungs DON'T GO DOWN THERE IS ICE O NE
THE BAR! With a bit of luck I caught him just in the right time.
Putting his foot out just in time to stop himself. After he got
down he thanked me along with everyone else. That was the Split
Second Moment.
