My 5 Seconds
of Fame
By Jake
It was a
Friday night, and the warm evening air was passing through my lungs
very quickly. I was exhausted, it was the last game of the season,
it was the big game. My parents, and the rest of the town, were
here watching our last football game.
It was fourth
and goal; we were on the 10-yard line. There was 5 seconds left,
which met one play, and that play was going to me. We broke the
huddle and I took my position feeling groggy with mud.
"Down,
ready set," the quarterback bellowed. Here it was my one play,
my run. "Hut!" at this point everything went very slow.
Matt, the halfback, streamed across the line of scrimmage making
a great block. I received the ball, and ran. I felt slow and tired.
I had no tread on my cleats because they were covered in mud. I
was past the line, and I hadn't been touched yet. There was one
man left to beat. The safety, and he had been playing hard all evening.
He came at me full speed, he was moving fast, so I ran faster. He
quickly fell behind me, now it was a foot race, a foot race he would
not win.
I ran across
the goal line, into the end zone feeling great, I did it, and we
won by one score, my score. Everyone met me in the end zone, and
congratulated me on my run. I felt great!
